Obituary for Bobye F. (DeeDee) George

On Wednesday, October 2, 2019 Bobye peacefully entered into eternal rest at the home of his youngest sister.

HIS BEGININNING: Bobye Franklin George was born November 8, 1959 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Bobye Lee and Katie Mae Jackson George. He was born as a twin to his sister.

Bobye received his primary education in Hanover Public Schools and completed high school from Patrick Henry High School in 1978. Bobye relocated to New Britain, CT where he attended and graduated from ECPI in Hartford, CT with a certification in Computer Operations. He started his working career at the Traveler’s Insurance Company in Hartford, CT as a Computer Operator. Although this position was seen by many as a “good job”, he was not content with being in the office environment and having to wear a suit everyday to work. Bobye wanted and needed more excitement in his life and decided to explore his options in another area of the Northeast.

In 1983 Bobye moved to New York City where he soon started a new career as a Professional Commercial Truck Driver for The Yellow Freight Trucking Company. Bobye finally found his calling that met both his wants and needs and worked hard as a truck driver for 30 years until he retired in 2017.

Bobye was a very loving, generous and kind person who enjoyed life and loved his family. He was a stay close to home kind of person and after leaving Virginia in 1979 returned only once because he did not like to leave his beloved New York City. He finally returned to Virginia in the spring of this year to live out his final days close to his sisters.

Bobye leaves to cherish his memory, his sisters, Martina George-Fields (Teren), Barbara “Jeannie” George (his twin sister), Betty J. George and Altimese George, one nephew, Stefon M. George, numerous cousins and devoted friends. Although Bobye never married or had any children of his own, he had a devoted friend for 18 years, Karis Lamb.

Betty, I was so sorry to hear the news of your brother’s passing. Especially, since it meant we missed the meeting I was so looking forward to. No one can prepare you for such a loss; however, just know that a person that departs this earth never truly leaves, for they are still alive in our hearts and minds and through us they live on. Betty, I know God will give you the strength to get through this moment in your life. Please accept my deepest condolences to you and your family.
