Early Monday morning, July 25, 2022, our hearts were broken as Almighty God gently closed the eyes of our beloved Betty Ann Dabney and welcomed her into eternal rest. Betty Ann was the fifth of six children born to Elizabeth and Harry Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Warren Junior Dabney & four brothers Ernest, Raymond, Linwood, and Alvin Smith.

Betty was born on October 15, 1946. She was educated in Hanover County Public Schools. Betty was a graduate of John M. Gandy High School class of 1965.

Betty was baptized at Saint James Baptist Church at an early age and enjoyed a strong relationship with the Lord. In 1965, Betty was united in marriage with Warren Junior Dabney, and from that union three children (Victoria, Alonzo, and Yolanda), were born.

For most of her adult life Betty was a happy homemaker, spending her time caring for her husband and three children. Betty was a kind, generous, loving woman. Affectionately called Ganny by her grandsons, who loved her cooking, especially her, cakes, pies, and lemon squares. She was happiest when she was in her kitchen baking. However, her true love was her family. She cherished any time spent with them, especially those precious moments spent with her grandsons Roland & Warren whom she adored.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory her children, Victoria, and Alonzo Dabney, and Yolanda “Bird” Deceus (Arnel), and Willie “Tuff” Jackson. Also mourning her passing are her grandsons Roland Edmonds Jr. and Warren Dabney. Betty will be remembered by her brother Alexander (Carolyn) Smith, sisters-in-law Everlena Smith and Gloria Smith, her loving ex-daughter-in-law Stocktina Bolden, in addition to a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

We will all miss her every day. Rest easy Ganny until we meet again.
