Beatrice Mason Lewis departed this life on December 6, 2021 at Henrico Doctors Hospital in Richmond Va. She was born the youngest of nine children to the late Lee and Patsy Mason of Hanover County on October 27, 1938. She was educated in the Hanover County Public School System.
At an early age “Ms. Bea,” as she was fondly called by many, joined and was baptized at the Union Baptist Church in Beaverdam, VA. A devoted member of the church, she served as church Treasurer for over 40 years, President of the Deaconess Board, Trustee, worked with the Hospitality Ministry and sang with the Inspiration Choir. She was also a member of the church formed gospel group called The Faithfull Few where she played the guitar. The group performed at Union Baptist Church and many neighboring churches in and around the County.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Abraham, Leroy and William Mason. Three sisters Mary Mason, Irene Daniels and Clara Wright, Grandson Timothy Edd- Lewis and Granddaughter In-Law Patty Lewis.
She was married to the love of her life John C. Lewis of Spotsylvania County VA. They shared Fifty-one years of marriage until his death in 2007. From this union, eight children were born. Randy Mason (Kim) Richmond VA, Linda (Ronnie) Harris Chesterfield, VA, John P. Lewis (Carol) Ruther Glen VA, Timothy Lewis of Spotsylvania VA, Lorna (Claude) Houchens of Louisa VA, Lisa Fox of Ruther Glen, VA, Lora Tyler of Richmond VA, and Jeffrey Lewis of Richmond VA. Through God’s blessing, from her children came 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. From her siblings came a multitude of nieces and nephews. She was loved by many, had a host of devoted friends and close relatives whom are too many to name.
Her career was in the field of Customer and Consumer Services however after retirement, she utilized those skills and became self employed as a Health Care Provider. She had so much compassion for others and gave often to her favorite charities St Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the Boys Home.
Ms. Bea was good hearted, gentle natured and a God fearing woman. Her faith in Jehovah God saw her through many trials and tests throughout her 83 years. The love she had for her family was beautiful like the spirit within her. She was considered a virtuous woman by her children and looked well to the things of her household. She was so special and almost sounds perfect as no one is, but you don’t have to be perfect to be precious and she was so precious to her children.
She will be greatly missed but has left her family a legacy of love and taught them that the joy of the Lord will be their strength. Faith and trust in God will see them through all the peaks and valleys of life. Always tell the truth, be honest in all of your dealings, respect and love one-another and be good stewards over the life God has given them.
