Barbara J. “Cookie” Twisdale, 63, went peacefully home on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. She was born on October 29, 1957 to Stewart Twisdale and Janice Tinsley Twisdale. Barbara was one of three children.

She was educated in Hanover County Public Schools and graduated from Patrick Henry High School’s first integrated graduating class.

Early on, Barbara accepted the teachings of Jesus Christ, practicing them throughout her life. Despite battling multiple sclerosis for most of her adult life, she was an active member of Providence Baptist Church in Ashland, Virginia, where she taught Sunday school and she served on the finance committee. She could be found sitting in her section, back in the ‘Tinsley corner.’ She loved her church. She even had a dedicated parking space with her name printed on the sign.

She was recognized in 2010 by the town of Ashland for her perseverance and inspirational impact on the community.

Affectionately known as Cookie, Barbara lived up to that name with her sweet demeanor and warm presence. Quick with an affectionate smile and listening ear, Barbara rarely complained and was known for celebrating the victories and accomplishments of others, especially her children, Acie and Stacie. Living each day in passionate positivity proved to have a tremendous effect not only on her children, but on anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ryan Twisdale.

Those who will celebrate and cherish her memory include her two children, Acie D. Wyatt (Kamilla), Stacie Straus (Daron); Life partner Acie L. Wyatt; a sister Vanessa Ford (Ernest Sr.); three grandchildren, Jayla Straus, Josie Straus, and Khadeis Battle; one niece, Tiffani Mason (Tyron); three nephews Ernest Ford Jr., Phil Ford (Jessica), and Jordan Twisdale.; Aunts & Uncles: Miriam Carter, Alma Winston, Bethaniel Johnson, Phyllis Mickens (Wayne), and Giolia Tinsley, Alease Twisdale and Betty Johnson (James).
