Addie Bell Brewer departed this life on Friday, December 31, 2021. She was born on March 8, 1934 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, the oldest child of the late Rosa Mary Salley. She moved to Washington, DC at an early age. She was preceded in death by her late husband William Henry Brewer; her brothers Loman, Harold, Donald; her son Darnell Brewer and her sister Hilda Salley.

Addie attended the District of Columbia Public School System and graduated from Cardozo High School. In her early years, Addie was employed with Capital Building Services as a Supervisor.

Addie was a long time faithful and dedicated member of the Macedonia Community Church for over 25 years. She served on the Senior Choir, Usher Board, Pastor’s Spiritual Adviser and worked with the Outreach Ministry. She loved to serve her church and community in any capacity. Her goal was to show God’s love.

Affectionately called “Nick or Nicky” by her family and many friends, she was loved by many. Addie was known for her “Tough Love” and honest advice but you knew she gave it from her heart. Addie was always well dressed, she loved fashions.

Mom loved her family very much, she had many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Throughout her illness she was supported by her children; Boobie, Doobie, Arne, Debbie, Jackie, Terrance, Ronnie and “baby boy” Darren. The last six weeks of her illness her daughter Debbie remained by her bedside, attending to her needs day and night. This task was very emotional but draining for her but she would not leave her bedside.

She leaves to cherish her memory her brother Herman Salley, and baby sister Rose Mary Salley; her son William (“Eloise”) Shaw of Buffalo, NY; Arnold (“Gabi”) Shaw of Upper Marlboro, MD; her daughters Deborah (“Darryle”) Burton of Conyers, GA; Jacqueline (“William”) Davis of Accokeek, MD; Linda “(Vaughn”) Boyd of Cheltenham, MD; her sons William Brewer of Washington, DC; Terrance Brewer of Athens, GA; Ronnie Brewer of Tampa Florida in addition her “honorary son Dennis (“Veronica”) Rhoades and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and other relative and friends.
