Jessica Patrice Burke was born on October 13, 1979, in Washington D.C. She graduated from Pathways High School in Silver Spring, Maryland and received certificates from Job Corps in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Hair Academy in New Carrollton, Maryland. She had been employed by Giant Foods, Inc. and Pizza Hut. She had a talent for and loved to do hair. One expression of this talent was through hair braiding, for which she had clients of all ages.

Jessica was baptized at Canaan Baptist Church, Washington D.C. by the late Reverend Doctor Cornelius Carter, Jr. She was a member of the Children’s Choir and the Junior Usher Board. At one point in her Christian walk, she joined the Highway to Heaven Holiness Church, but later rejoined Canaan. Jessica was very fond of and loved to work with small children. Jessica was married briefly to Garth Clarke.

Jessica’s favorite color was purple and her favorite song was “Don’t Worry Be Happy.” Jessica was especially fond of gospel music, particularly anything and everything recorded by Richard Smallwood, who she met when she was eight years old.

Jessica loved her friends as well as other people in general. She was always ready and willing to help whenever and wherever she could.

Jessica will be lovingly remembered by her mother – Nancy E. Burke; her aunt – Charlotte (William) Daniels and two cousins – Norman (Jerrica) and Seneca Daniels; her spiritual sisters – Patricia (Joseph) Harley, Jovanda Ampofo, and Susan (Eric) Young; her Godparents – Sylvia (Thomas) Mills, Vannie (Marvin) Kirby, Sylvanus (Kathleen) Holley, Jr., a very special aunt/Godmother Ruth Boozer, and several God sisters and brothers.
