Obituary

David Lewis Johnson, Sr, 72 of King George, Virginia quietly and peacefully slipped away to be with the Lord, early Monday morning, August 14, 2017 at the Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center.

David was born in Westmoreland, Virginia on July 11, 1945 to the late Trustee Dennis and Ida Johnson, one of seven children. He attended A.T. Johnson in Westmoreland County.

David retired from Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO) on July 11, 2000 after 30 years of service. He also worked as a mechanic at DeAtley’s Automotive Center and a security guard for various places.

David accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age uniting with the Little Zion Baptist Church. David was a faithful member, he loved the Lord and knew God for himself. David would attend the 8:00am service, he said “Gotta go to church before I go to the dragstrip” and race his 1967 Ford Mustang “Whoop There It Is” – D.L.J. & Son. David was the 2015 Track Champion at Colonial Beach Dragway and would love to hear his family say, “The Champ Is Here – The Champ is Here”.

On March 22, 1965, David married the love of his life, Emma Mary McDowney. This union was blessed with four children. David loved and cherished his family.

David taught his son and grandsons everything there was to know about cars, he was a die-hard Ford man. When his granddaughter Brittany was buying her first car, he went with her to make sure it was a Ford…she bought a Ford Focus. He also loved to sing “This Little Light of Mine” with his great granddaughter Aaliyah while she played her little tambourine. David loved to put Aaliyah on the bus and get her off the bus every day. He also taught her how to plant tomatoes. She had her own tomato plant every year.

David lived life to the fullest and was well loved by all. He enjoyed preparing meals for his family and friends. He had a way of making everyone feel right at home.
