Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth? Galatians 5:7
Reverend Houston Charles LeFear, Sr. was born March 13, 1958 in Alexandria, Louisiana to the late Reverend Leon LeFear, Sr. and the late Lucille Booze LeFear. He was a graduate of Peabody High School. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army for thirteen years. He retired from the Department of Defense, Fort Belvoir as a Supplier after 20 years of service.
On November 30, 1996, he was joined in marriage to Tiny Lucille Smyre in Dumfries, Virginia where the families were combined as one big family.
He was licensed at Little Union Baptist Church in Dumfries, VA under the leadership of Bishop Leonard B. Lacey. His first sermon was from the book of Jonah, “You can run but you can't hide.” For many years he would minister the Word to those incarcerated and encouraged the shut-ins and elderly. He furthered his biblical studies by attending Fredericksburg Bible Institute. He wrote his first book, “My Story” in 1997.
Houston joined Branch Fork Baptist Church in September 2005 under the leadership of Pastor Elder Donnell Comfort. He served in the capacity of teaching and ministering the word of God. He played a big part in evangelizing those he met along the way. As a Spotsylvania NAACP member, he worked behind the scenes with county officials to get two outdoor recreation courts at the Marshall Park in 2007. He loved to fellowship and communicate with those who knocked at his door especially other religious denominations.
Reverend LeFear provided words of encouragement to any one he met. You would find him reaching out to others in the midst of his own pains and suffering. He cherished his Pastor Elder Donnell Comfort, former Pastor Bishop Leonard B. Lacey and his mentor, Reverend Michael Wilson (known to him as Doc). He had a seriousness about doing the work of the Lord. One of his favorite saying, “What's in Hell do you want?”
The last sermon he preached was on March 19, 2017, “Stop Running” 1 Kings 19th chapter.
He was called from labor to reward on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. He was preceded in death by one brother Leon LeFear, Jr., and one sister Brenda LeFear.
Houston leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 21 years, Tiny Lucille Smyre LeFear; his sons; Steven Jerome Banks, Tedrick Dominique Geter, and Houston Charles LeFear, Jr., his daughter Carmen L. Martin; his sisters; Carolyn L Whetts Kindle (Reverend Willie F.), Patricia L. Council (William), Lois L. Bowie (Jimmy), his brother, Eric L. LeFear (Donna); six grandchildren; Ruby, Steven, Riyah, Meri, Chavon, and Tytan, close friends Clyde (Happy), RedBoy, Rudy, Minister Martha Harris, Deron and Sandi Terrell, ...and a host of other relatives and friends.
Father, I stretch my hands to thee, No other help I know;
If thou withdraw thyself from me, Ah! whither shall I go?
What did thy only Son endure Before I drew my breath;
What pain, what laborer, to secure My soul from endless death!
