Obituary

Bertha Vernette Giles; the fourth of four children departed this life on Friday, June 15, 2018. She was born in Hanover County to the late James and Berthena Giles. She was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church where she accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age where she served faithfully until her health began to fail. She received her education at John M. Gandy in Ashland, Virginia, class of 1964 prior to starting her career.

Vern worked in grocery retail at various supermarkets until she began her employment with Ukrops where she later retired after 25+ years. After being a caregiver for her mother she returned to Kroger to work for 5 more years.
Vern enjoyed being a member of the Montpelier Women Club. She loved cooking, traveling and shopping and most of all being with family. Always ready to ride even without being asked.

Vern was preceded in death by her devoted parents James and Berthena Giles; one brother, Robert D. Giles.

She leave to cherish her memories her devoted son, Deacon Derrick L. Giles (Dione), two grandchildren Dionedra Henderson and Jaylin Giles. A Devoted sister Mary G. Anderson (Ralph); one brother Thomas A. Giles. A devoted sister-in-law Janice J. Giles. Four aunts, Estellena Ridges, Elizabeth Mitchell, Alice Mitchell, and Edna Jenkins (a devoted riding partner). One uncle Deacon Joseph Giles (Ruth). A host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, two devoted Katrina Giles and LaTanya Minor. Special cousins and friends, Joyce Hill, Anne Jefferson, Roddy and Yolanda Mitchell, Joyce Pryor, Lucy Robinson, Michael Phillips, Phyllis Dabney and Mary Clark (grandma).
