Obituary

Alvin James Winston was born on May 29, 1966 in Ashland, Virginia to Rosa Mary “Lewis” Winston and William Winston Sr. On Sunday, April 8, 2018, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ reached out His hand for His son, Alvin. He passed away peacefully at Parham Health Care & Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Eddie R. Winston Sr., Emily “Walker” Winston, Forest Lewis Jr. and Elizabeth “Brown” Lewis; cousin, Eddie R. Winston III and a great-niece, Ava Winston.

Alvin joined First Baptist Church at an early age where he was baptized, under the leadership of Pastor Adams Grimes, Sr. He was educated in Hanover County Public School System where he attended Patrick Henry High School.
Alvin worked for Commercial Carry Express as a Carrier, Wendy’s as a cook, Hanover County Public School as a custodian and Randolph Macon College in the Food Division.

He was a Dallas Cowboy fan and would often DJ his wonderful music for his friends. Alvin frequently went to the drag racing and watched Nascar on television. In his leisure, he worked on vehicles and lawn mowers. He also like to play cards, go fishing and cook. Alvin loved being around his family. Even though he is no longer here, we will always have love for him.

He always looked out for his family when he could. He had a joyous spirit, was a people person and especially loved his family. Alvin will be remembered for his glorious smile and love of family. He would want to be remembered as a loving, kind and considerate person, but for most all his faith in God. He always had a kind word to say. Alvin was indeed one of the most precious gifts God has given us.
He was called home to the pearly gates of heaven to unite with his loved ones that preceded him. Alvin leaves to cherish his memories to: son, James Winston Jackson; parents, Rosa Mary “Lewis” Winston and William Winston Sr.; three brothers, William Winston Jr., Tom “Jerome” Winston (Frederica) and Robert Dominique Lewis; sister, Pamela Deneen Winston, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, many cousins, other relatives and friends, a special friend, Alnita Gertrude Jackson.
