Mrs. Rosa Belle Courtney Quash, known by many as Aunt Belle, peacefully transitioned from labor to reward, Monday, February 5, 2018.
Rosa Belle was born February 25, 1920 to Mattie and Arthur Courtney in Caroline County, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Bessie Benjamin and Hortense Courtney, two brothers; Vernon Courtney, and William James Courtney.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted lifetime member of Second Mount Zion Baptist Church. She served faithfully for many years as president of the Senior Choir, treasurer of the Pulpit Circle, chairperson of the Church Calendar Committee, and member of the Senior Missionary Circle and Scholarship Fund Committee.
She completed her early education in the Dawn Elementary School and Union High School. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Virginia State College, now Virginia State University. She further studied at Teachers College Columbia University in New York City where she received her Masters in Early Childhood Education and later did additional studies in education at the University of Virginia.
Her employment experience included teaching at Radiant Elementary School in Madison County, Virginia, Sunshine Elementary School in Woodford, Virginia, Dawn School in Caroline County, Virginia, Union Elementary and Bowling Green Primary School in Bowling Green, Virginia.
Rosa Belle was a committed and involved citizen in the Caroline County community.
