To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1

On May 8, 2017, God selected a precious new flower for His eternal garden, George A. Johnson.

Affectionally known as “Anderson”, he was born on March 19, 1941 to the late Mamie Iola and George Harris Johnson. Anderson attended Ralph Bunch High School, where he excelled at sports, especially basketball and softball. He accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at Mt. Bethel Beach. He later joined St. Stephens Baptist Church, where his membership remained throughout his lifetime.

Anderson married Shirley Davis on January 6, 1959. For many years, he was a driver for the Northern Neck Transfer Company (NNT). In later years, he held a variety of positions, including Lowes associate and Park Service Attendant.

He had many hobbies throughout the years, including playing and managing male and female softball teams, watching baseball and going to the race track. Most of all, he loved “kicking the breeze” (as he would say) with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mamie Iola and George; daughters Delorice and Earlene; and stepdaughter Verlette. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Shirley; Eight sons: George (Earline), Timothy (Cynthia), Thomas, Kevin, Larry (Joy), Kelvin (Stacy), Michael (Katrina) and Williams; Three daughter: Mary, Barbara and Cynthia; Stepdaughter Laverne (Donald); Brother, Thomas Johnson of California; Uncle, Harold White; Son-in-law, Mark McDowney; Devoted Godsister, Norma Conway, along with four sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, 44 grandchildren and an amazing 97 great grandchildren.

With sorrowful hearts, we let you go…
